Butterfly valve is a flow regulating disc valve, rotary valves in which a disc – shaped closure member is rotated through 90º, or about to open or close the flow passage. The main function of these valves is to control the flow of liquids through a section of pipe. Butterfly valves are mainly used in waste treatment systems.
Butterfly Valve movement of the disc will depend on whether the valve is open or closed either partially or completely. If the valve is opened partially, it means that the disc will not be rotated a full one quarter turn, thus it cannot provide unrestricted passage. This means that, smaller amounts of fluid or air will pass through. However, if the valve is opened completely, the disc will be rotated 90 degrees then larger amounts of air or fluid will pass through

Flange mounted butterfly damper for gas regulation/control and isolation. Regulating or isolating round butterfly damper.

Cast iron butterfly valves, commonly referred to as gray iron butterfly valve, are made of an alloy containing iron and 2-4% carbon, and may contain trace amounts of other impurities like sulfur or phosphorus. The cast iron butterfly valves are a cheap option for non-critical applications.
The cast iron butterfly valves are not new. Cast iron has been known for centuries, and it’s known as a very durable material for butterfly valves. It has excellent damping qualities, meaning that when intense vibrations disturb the cast iron butterfly valve, it is unlikely to suffer any damage. However, the cast iron butterfly valves have low ductility.
It is normally impractical for marine use butterfly valves because pipes and valves tend to bend slightly as a ship moves on water, and this can cause the iron to crack. In fact any bending of the material of these butterfly valves will cause it to crack.
These types of cast iron butterfly valves are most commonly used in applications that require high amounts of flow along with quick, tight shut off. Some applications include hot and cold domestic water, HVAC, condenser and chilled water. These applications are often found in commercial or light industrial utilities. 
Most wafer-style butterfly valves are engineered with four holes that align with the connected pipeline. The valve is designed to clamp between two flanges in your pipe work. Most wafer butterfly valves fit the majority of flange standards. The rubber or EPDM valve seat creates an exceptionally strong seal between the valve and flange connection.
Unlike lug-style butterfly valves, wafer-style butterfly valves cannot be used as pipe ends or end-of-line service. The entire line must be shut down if either side of the valve requires maintenance. Wafer style butterfly valves are manufactured to be compatible with either pneumatic or electric actuation. Disc and seat material should be determined based on application and flow media.

High performance butterfly control valves are intended for general service applications not requiring precision throttling control.

They are normally operated remotely by air cylinders, electric or pneumatic actuators, although manual versions through the customary hand lever, handwheel and reduction gearboxes can be accommodated.


Construction is generally from Mild or Stainless Steel with the body of the valve formed from rolled steel angles orchannels dependent on the size.
The Damper itself is formed from two plates which sandwich, if required, a felt seal or alternatively it can be a singleblade sized for close fitment to the valve body. The type selected is dependent on the amount of air leakage that can beaccepted.
The split spindle mounting system minimizes turbulence within the air stream and these spindles are mounted on either twoor four bolt flanged mounted sealed for life bearings.
Seals can be fitted if required through a simple ‘O’ ring or, on high temperature applications, the conventional stuffingbox is utilised.
The type of actuator, to suit the clients requirements or specification, can be added to all sizes and, on pneumaticversions, limit switches and single solenoid spring return valves are included.
